In the passenger vehicle segment, EV penetration rose to <strong>7% in May<\/strong>, up from around **5% earlier in the previous financial year.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rising Fuel Costs Accelerate EV Adoption<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The recent surge in petrol, diesel, and CNG prices has<\/strong> prompted more consumers to explore electric alternatives. Sister brand Kia is also expected to introduce the Syros EV, strengthening the group&#8217;s electric offerings in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Global Automakers Expand EV Plans<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Several international manufacturers are preparing major EV launches for the Indian market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Honda is expected to enter India&#8217;s electric passenger vehicle segment with the launch of the 0 Alpha, a mid-size electric SUV<\/strong>. The launch would mark the Japanese automaker&#8217;s first major push into India&#8217;s growing EV market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vietnamese manufacturer VinFast is expected to launch the compact electric SUV VF3 while also exploring entry into India&#8217;s electric two-wheeler segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In the luxury segment, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Range Rover, Jaguar, and Volvo<\/strong> are all preparing new electric models for Indian consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BMW Group<\/strong> India President and CEO Hardeep Singh Brar recently indicated that electric mobility would remain a key focus as the company prepares multiple launches during the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Two-Wheeler Segment Remains the Growth Engine<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>India&#8217;s electric two-wheeler market continues to lead EV adoption by volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Royal Enfield is expected to expand its electric lineup <\/strong>with the launch of the Flying Flea S6, following the introduction of the Flying Flea C6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Market leaders TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, and Hero MotoCorp are also preparing refreshed versions of their popular electric scooters, including the iQube, Chetak, and Vida ranges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather than relying solely on new products, manufacturers are increasingly offering multiple battery, range, and performance options to attract a wider customer base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Startups Intensify Competition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>EV-focused startups are also preparing for an active year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Companies including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ather Energy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ultraviolette Automotive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Oben Electric<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Revolt Motors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Simple Energy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Greaves Electric Mobility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>are collectively expected to launch more than 10 new products during FY27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ather Energy is preparing vehicles based on its new EL platform, while Yamaha is expected to expand its electric portfolio with the launch of the <strong>Aerox E<\/strong>, the electric version of its popular maxi-scooter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Most Active Year Yet for Electric Mobility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Industry estimates suggest India witnessed around <strong>30-40 EV launches during FY26<\/strong>.
