Solar Industries, MIL Secure Rs 10,000 Crore Pinaka Order, CCS Clears Deal

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has approved a Rs 10,000 crore procurement deal for the Pinaka rocket launcher system, with Solar Industries and Munitions India Limited (MIL) selected as key manufacturers, according to a report by ANI citing defence sources.

The Pinaka launchers will enhance artillery capabilities of the Indian Army, particularly in high-altitude areas near its borders in the North. Under the procurement, Rs 5,700 crore worth of high-explosive ammunition and Rs 4,500 crore worth of area-denial ammunition have been cleared.

Private ammunition and weapon producer Solar Industries will tie up with state-owned defence PSU, MIL, for its production. It is a boost for India’s indigenization drive in defence production and curbing its imports of key weapons.

Natively designed and developed in India by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), one of the most high-tech artillery rocket launchers in the whole world, Pinaka, is designed and developed at Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and other DRDO labs, and it is famous for its accuracy in firing and even generated international buyers including France and Armenia interested in its purchase.
