On September 12, a strong rally on Dalal Street pushed the BSE’s market capitalisation up by over Rs 6.5 lakh crore, as both benchmark indices surged to new record highs. The Sensex crossed the 83,000 mark for the first time ever, closing at 82,962, a rise of 1.77% or 1,440 points. The total market capitalization of BSE-listed companies hit a new high of Rs 467.22 lakh crore, up 1.4% from the previous day.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices also saw gains, ending up 1.32% and 0.8%, respectively. The rally was driven by investor optimism ahead of next week’s US Federal Reserve meeting, where the interest rate outlook will be discussed.
