The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has recommended imposing an anti-dumping duty on Acetonitrile imports from China, Russia, and Taiwan for five years. This decision, announced on March 21, aims to protect the domestic industry from unfair pricing practices.
The DGTR also stated that the duty would be equal to the lesser of the margin of dumping and margin of injury in order to safeguard domestic producers against financial losses. The investigation also found that Acetonitrile imports of 98% purity or lower were competing with the 99% purity version which is produced by Indian producers, affecting local suppliers.
Besides Acetonitrile, DGTR has also suggested anti-dumping duty on Pretilachlor, which is a herbicide, and roller chains imported from China. The authority observed that imports of these products had surged in the last year, resulting in price undercutting and harm to the domestic industry.
The final authority to impose these duties rests with the Ministry of Finance, which will take DGTR’s recommendations into account before issuing a notification.
