India Bans All Imports from Pakistan After Pahalgam Terror Attack

India has stopped the import of all goods from Pakistan with immediate effect after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025. The decision was taken as part of national security actions, and the ban is now part of India’s Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023.

In a new notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), the government has added a special rule to block all goods coming directly or indirectly from Pakistan. This restriction will stay in place until further orders. If any exceptions are to be made, they will need special approval from the government.

The regulation explicitly mentions that import or even transit of products that are from Pakistan, even if previously permitted or freely importable, is now totally prohibited. This has been done in light of the Pahalgam attack in Jammu & Kashmir, in which 26 individuals, including tourists, were murdered in a terrorist ambush at Baisaran Valley.

Since this terror attack, India has already taken several robust measures. These range from suspending Pakistan’s SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES), the withdrawal of Pakistani military officers from India, the closing of the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960, and the shutdown of the.Attari Integrated Check Post.

The only active border crossing between the two nations was the Attari-Wagah border road. With this border closed, all trade between Pakistan and India has been brought to a halt.

During a recent high-level defence meeting, the armed forces were given complete autonomy by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to frame India’s retaliation. This encompasses the time, method, and target of the retaliation.
