India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue surged to a record ₹2.37 lakh crore in April, marking a 12.6% year-on-year increase, government data showed. This is the highest monthly collection since the GST system was implemented on July 1, 2017.
In comparison, GST collections for March stood at ₹1.96 lakh crore, a 9.9% rise over the same month last year. The previous record was ₹2.10 lakh crore in April 2024.
Domestic transactions contributed around ₹1.9 lakh crore, growing 10.7%, while GST from imports climbed 20.8% to ₹46,913 crore. Refunds issued during the month also saw a significant jump of 48.3%, reaching ₹27,341 crore.
This upward trend follows February’s GST collections of ₹1.83 lakh crore, which rose 9.1% year-on-year, and January’s ₹1.96 lakh crore, up 12.3%. In December, collections totaled ₹1.77 lakh crore, showing a slower 7.3% growth after the festive season peak in November.
For FY25, the Union Budget projects an 11% increase in GST revenue, targeting ₹11.78 lakh crore, including Central GST and compensation cess.
