Gensol Engineering to Establish India’s First Green Hydrogen Valley Project in Pune

Renewable energy firm Gensol Engineering and hydrogen infrastructure developer Matrix Gas are set to launch India’s first Green Hydrogen Valley project in Pune, Maharashtra. The project will be built on a Build Own and Operate (BOO) model and will supply green hydrogen to the specialty chemical sector for 20 years.

In a stock exchange filing on September 11, Anmol Jaggi, Managing Director of Gensol Engineering, stated, “We are committed to supplying Green Hydrogen on a round-the-clock (RTC) basis to develop India’s Green Hydrogen economy.”

The green hydrogen will be produced through the electrolysis route under the project. “We were selected as the best bidder through competitive tender in both technical and commercial aspects,” said Chirag Kotecha, Whole-time Director, Matrix Gas and Renewables.

Both Gensol and Matrix have common promoters and plan to collaborate on Green Hydrogen, Green Steel, and Green Ammonia, leveraging each other’s capabilities to give India a lead position in clean energy. The announcement comes as Gensol Engineering recently successfully executed the awarding of India’s first bio-hydrogen project and an Integrated Solar Power project in Gujarat. Last month it forayed into the US market as well. Gensol is one of the largest developers of standalone BESS projects. The company has secured a project under Kusum Yojana for 116 MW. As of July 31st, 2024, Gensol Solar order book stood at Rs 4,700 crores including BESS projects.
