Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget estimates for the fiscal year 2024-25, detailing the government’s financial plans and projections.
The total receipts for FY25 are estimated at ₹32.07 lakh crore, while total expenditure is projected to be ₹48.21 lakh crore. Net tax receipts are expected to reach ₹25.83 lakh crore. Gross market borrowings are estimated at ₹14.01 lakh crore, with net market borrowings at ₹11.63 lakh crore.
The fiscal deficit for FY25 is estimated at 4.9% of GDP. Sitharaman highlighted the government’s commitment to fiscal consolidation, aiming to reduce the deficit below 4.5% by the next year. “From 2026-27 onwards, our endeavour will be to keep the fiscal deficit each year such that the Central Government debt will be on a declining path as a percentage of GDP,” she stated.
